Our "hands on" perspective of picking mats.
Whether you are practicing at home, at the gym or in your local studio, having a proper mat is key. According to survey by Yoga Journal in 2016 49% of Yoga Studios Serve 100 Students or More Per Week…that’s a whole lot of hands, feet and sweat. The hygienic choice would be to BYOM to your next class. (In our humble opinion).
While there are many options available, most yoga mats work just fine for any style of yoga. However, understanding the differences will help you select a mat that fits your personal needs and how to pick a mat right for you.
Yoga Mat Thickness and Weight
Yoga mats range from super thin and compact travel styles that weight a no more than 2 lbs. to thick beasts that weigh up to 7 lbs. If you’re not sure where to start, choose a mat that’s about 6mm thick (0.25 in.), a decent thickness.
Yoga Mat Materials + Durability
Generally, thicker mats last longer than thinner mats. That said, mat durability is also related to the material the mat is made from. We also believe that nothing lasts forever, but it can have forever effects on the you and the environment. All of our mats are free of harmful phthalates so they are better for you and eco-friendly for our environment.
